The Great Learner Project

What is it?

Will Ord of Thinking Education Limited An inspiring year-long project designed to support leaders in developing ‘Great Learners’ throughout their school. Very cost-effective, adaptable, cross-phase and gives CPD a meaningful role in the sustained development of teaching & learning. CPD that gives a long-term structure to your school vision!

How does it work?

As a school partnership / MAT / network, three staff from each school (including at least one member of SLT) come to four Input Days spread over any twelve months. Each day introduces very practical approaches and techniques for improving learning for both staff and pupils. The GLP staff trio then share self-selected ideas for sustained development in their context. Achievements are then shared and extended on the final project day (Impact Day).

The GLP has a tried and tested structure: 95% ‘Excellent’ ratings!

Day One:

  • Strategies for really effective and sustained development as a school.
  • Exploring metacognition, mindset, resilience, challenge and memory

Day Two:

  • Introduction to Philosophy for Children (P4C) as a powerful pedagogy for raising results
  • Developing great communication and thinking skills.

Day Three:

  • Wellbeing and mindfulness: What is wellbeing and how can mindfulness help both staff and pupils?
  • At the end of Day Three, we will facilitate a Parent and Governor Information Evening for schools involved.

Day Four:

  • Impact Day: Sharing and celebrating good practice. Planning for sustained development.

Each school will receive key PowerPoint slides, resources and an Impact Toolkit to help schools assess the effectiveness of the GLP.

Who delivers the training?
The training will be provided by the creator of the GLP, Will Ord. Will is the Director of Thinking Education Ltd and is an internationally known Education Consultant. He was also a full-time teacher, governor, author and writer for the TES, Chair of SAPERE, and has worked with Ofsted, the DfE, and in over a thousand schools in 25 countries. Will has also practised P4C for over 26 years and is one of the UK’s leading P4C trainers.
